It is estimated that 13 million Americans have problems with red
faces and/or redness of the neck. One of the most common causes
of a red face is rosacea
and a common cause of redness of the neck is a condition called
poikiloderma of Civatte.
Rosacea may cause redness and enlargement of the blood vessels
(telangiectasias) of the face along with acne- like "pimples"
and even enlargement of the nose in men. This is a condition that
may be cosmetically undesirable and socially embarrassing. The redness
makes one appear flushed, embarrassed, or as if an excessive drinker,
while the enlarged blood vessels can make the face look equally
unappealing. The acne element can be controlled by certain medicines
prescribed by your dermatologist but the redness and blood vessel
enlargement is unresponsive to medicines and usually persists.
